Aeolis Cultural Development Society of Lesvos Island participates in the the EU project «Contributions to European Heritage», on researching the cultural contribution of every participating country to the common European Cultural Identity.
Other members of this partnership are:
• Horizon College, (coordinator) , educational organization of Higher and Vocational Education and Training from the Netherlands
• Abendgymnasium der Stadt Münster, adult education institution from Germany
• ΕPAPU ALBEIROS, Second Chance School from Spain
Every organization presents examples of the cultural heritage of their own country as a contribution to the common European heritage. The students of every partner organization research, write, take pictures, paint and present parts of their culture (monuments, paintings, literature, science, customs) and upload these examples on a digital platform so as to stimulate a discussion on their contribution to the common European cultural identity. At the end of the project a digital book of Common European History will be created.
This will stimulate interest in their own history and make them aware of the mutual influences (of the various parts of Europe) of the past and the development of a European consciousness. On the other hand teachers will be stimulated to encourage team work methods and experiential learning.
Furthermore we want to develop the relationship of our adult education institutions in future, the writing and research skills of our students, develop a network between our schools, and establish a common platform as a meeting point for teachers and students.
The topics that will be researched and presented in Lesvos are:
1. Acropolis as a part of the European and world heritage
2. Greek Painting of the 19th century (especially well -known Lesvian painters will be studied, as Theofilos and Iakovides)
3. The Nobel laureates Seferis and Elytis and their contribution to the European historical memory
4. and other topics that will be decided according to the Working Team of Aeolis.
Partners are organizations that provide education to adults (after high school, Second Chance schools, Pre-Higher education). This project is expected to give participants the chance to research and learn better their own history, national and local, the culture and the arts, and to study their influences on the European culture and their contribution to the European Identity formation. The partner institutions will form a network that will be in contact through the digital platform.
